My interest in photography and design started at the age of 12 with the gift of a used 35mm camera and has never stopped. I spent my more formative years learning as I went and when I decided to enter the US Air Force this was the perfect opportunity to broaden my curiosity with a formal college education. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an additional degree in Applied Science and logistics. To be honest I should have studied business.
In 2000 I returned home to Virginia. I continued to work as a freelance photographer, becoming a Chief photographer for Media General. After a few years I left Media General to establish his own Commercial and Editorial photography business. With the help of family and friends in 2004 I founded Kevin Blackburn Photography and now shoot for a broad range of clients and have an ever evoling and successful business here in the Shenandoah Valley.
Though Commercial and editorial assignments pay the bills and keep the lights on. I am increasingly finding my personal work is what is most important to me and motivates me the most. I find myself shooting more and more self assignments and projects... and many are still on the drawing board.
Life is to long to be unhappy and not do the things we want to a friend once told me and this has proven very true. I hope you enjoy my work both personal and professional and I invite any and all commentary from anyone.
